Re: Kicking is not a soccer skill program
Dear Parents,
The purpose of this letter is to tell you about our program called
“Kicking Is Not a soccer Skill” (KINS) which is a program
designed for our under six players. Your coach will be using the KINS
program to teach your child soccer skills. The most important skill
young players must learn is dribbling. It takes years of practice to
become an expert dribbler so the sooner they start the better!
Dribbling is also the foundation skill for all other skills so it is
appropriate to teach this first. The KINS program makes learning to
dribble the top priority. Aimless kicking will be discouraged by the
coaches as it simply develops bad habits that will need to be corrected
later.
To help the coaches during games we ask that you please:
Leave the coaching to the coaches!
Refrain from telling the players to “kick it” !
Cheer and applaud both teams!
When the ball has gone out of play the game will be restarted using the
“new ball” method. One of the coaches will drop a
“new”ball on to the field for the players to play with.
You’ll notice that the “new ball” will often find
it’s way to the feet of a player who hasn’t been recently
involved. The players will quickly catch on to this new way of
restarting the game and it will make for more touches on the ball -
more dribbling - by the players.
If you have any questions or comments about the KINS program please
feel free to contact us. Enjoy the Spring soccer season.
