Griffin Youth Soccer Association Under Eight (u8) Soccer Rules

The Field
The field markings conform to FIFA, except for the goal area, which is as marked on the field.

The Ball
Size 3 ball.

Number of players
Each team will field a maximum of four field players and a goalkeeper (five in total). A minimum of three players is required. Team numbers on each side will be reduced as needed if a team is unable to field five players.

Substitutions
Players may be substituted after the following: a throw-in awarded in your favor, or after a goal kick, a goal, a caution, or an injury stoppage by either team. Players may also be substituted at half time. ALL PLAYERS MUST PLAY AT LEAST HALF OF EVERY GAME. It is recommended that the goalkeeper position is rotated between all players.

Players Equipment
Players must wear shinguards covered with socks. Footwear may be soccer shoes or sneaker type shoes.

The Referee
A certified referee will be appointed in charge of the match.

Assistant referees (linesmen)
There will be no linesmen, and ball in/out of play will be called by the referee.

Duration of the game
The game shall be divided into two twenty minute halves with a five minute break at half time.

The Start of Play
Conforms to FIFA.

Offside
There will be no offside.

Fouls and Misconduct
All fouls will be briefly explained to the offending player. Players may be cautioned or sent off.

Free Kicks
All fouls will result in an indirect free kick. Opponents will be six yards from ball. A goal cannot be scored directly from an indirect free kick. No kicks shall be taken within six yards of the opponent’s goal.

Penalty Kicks
There will be no penalty kicks.

Throw in
Players will be given a second opportunity to execute a throw in.

Goal kick
The kick may be taken anywhere within the goal area. Opponents must be six yards away from the ball.


Corner Kick
Opponents must be six yards away from the ball.
