1.
How young can they start?
Children must be four years old to play.
2.
How much does it cost?
Registration fees vary with age, from $60 for
under 5 players to $90 for u19 players. In addition a uniform, costing $40,
must be purchased but this may be used for several seasons.
3.
When do practice and games begin?
In the Spring season matches start the first
weekend in March and run through mid-May. In the Fall the games begin after the
Labor day weekend in September and run through mid-November. Practices begin a
few weeks before the first match.
4.
How often do kids practice and play?
Teams at all ages play a game on Saturday,
with most games played in the morning. Occasionally older age groups will play
a game on Sunday afternoon. Younger teams will practice once a week during a
weekday evening for about an hour. Older teams will practice twice a week for
an hour or more.
5.
Do boys and girls play together?
For all under five and under six teams children
play together (co-ed). Under eight teams play either co-ed or separately,
depending on the numbers signing up. All older players - on under ten teams
and older - have separate boys and girls teams.
6.
How do I sign up?
Sign up online at
griffinsoccer.org. Look for the
registration tab and follow the steps. Registration opens up about six weeks
before the start of a season and will remain open for about a month. After that
registrations are only accepted if there is space available on a team. If you
prefer to register and pay in person there is a walk-in registration service
available at the Cowan Road snack bar on Saturdays between 10am and 3pm. Check
online at
griffinsoccer.org
for the dates when walk-in registration is available. Click
HERE for specific information on how to
register, especially if you are a
returning player.
7. Will my
child stay on the same team from season to season?
Soccer seasons
run from Fall to Spring, meaning that the team they are assigned to in
the Fall season will be the same team in the Spring. All teams are
re-rostered in the Fall to maintain competitive integrity. Spring
rosters may be adjusted to account for no-shows and new registrations,
but no existing players will be moved until the following Fall season.
8. How
will I get new uniforms or replace old ones?
New uniforms are
passed out by the coaches at practice some time before the first game,
or can be picked up at the snack bar at Tyus Park during normal practice
hours. Replacement uniforms may be purchased at the snack bar, as
well.
9. When
will I hear from a coach after I register?
Coaches will
receive rosters with players and contact information approximately 2
weeks before the first games. If you do not hear from a coach
within one week before the first games, email Gerry with link shown at
the top of this page. See #3 above for when practices and games
begin.
10. Where
do teams practice?
Coaches should
inform parents at initial contact where they will practice, but most
teams practice at Tyus Park. Practice space is first come - first
serve basis, especially on busy Thursday nights.
11. What
happens to coaches/players/spectators who misbehave?
ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY:
In Summary-NO coach, parent, player or spectator will be
allowed to exhibit any type of hostile behavior towards any other party
visiting any parks held in trust by Griffin Soccer Club or while traveling as a
